Doug Weisz of Weisz Covers Interviewed for Documentary.
Recently, Weisz Covers had the honor of hosting The Collectors Union in our home in New Orleans to participate in the filming of their documentary “Freaks & Errors. A documentary about stamp collectors”. A lifetime of experience in a variety of collectibles industries has provided me a different perspective than most of the people he has already interviewed. Most of whom have been strictly stamp collectors. I hope that Mark found some of what I had to say interesting enough to add to the hours of footage he’s accumulated. Mark shared with me that I was the first person that he interviewed nearly 10 years ago. I had completely forgotten this until he brought it up. Also, I am the last person he interviewed for this project and I thought that this was fitting.
We talked about why I got involved as a dealer in covers, how I got here and why I think that people collect stamps. We talked a little about pre stamp postal history and about my personal collection of illustrated New Orleans advertising covers. I shared my enthusiasm for the business and my thoughts about the future of the hobby. I treated them to lunch brought in by Miriam from Cochon Butcher and drove them to the airport. Mark and Alex were definitely impressed with the food if not my interview!
I am proud we were one of the first to contribute to their successful Kick Starter campaign. I firmly believe there is something of interest to be found by everyone in the hobby of philately. The study of postal history can lead you to who you are and where you are from. Philately provides the opportunity to constantly learn something new. I am grateful to everyone who has made my participation in this field possible. I enjoyed having Mark and Alex and hope they enjoyed their trip to New Orleans. I am looking forward to seeing the finished film.
